This Sweetened Condensed Milk Bread is incredibly soft, slightly sweet, and boasts an irresistible fluffy texture. Perfect for breakfast with a smear of butter, as an afternoon snack with tea, or even for making French toast. It’s an easy-to-make recipe that yields a versatile loaf suitable for various occasions.
For the egg wash:
Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the bread flour, sweetened condensed milk, egg, softened butter, and salt. Add the yeast mixture. Using the dough hook attachment or by hand, knead the mixture until a smooth and elastic dough forms, approximately 8 minutes with a mixer or 12 minutes by hand. If the dough is too sticky, add additional flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it becomes manageable.
First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Dough: After the first rise, punch down the dough to release any air bubbles. Shape it into a loaf or divide it into equal portions to form rolls. Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan or baking dish.
Second Rise: Cover the shaped dough and let it rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until slightly puffed.
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, mix together the beaten egg and milk. Gently brush this mixture over the top of the dough to achieve a golden, glossy crust.
Bake: Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown on top and it sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
