Craving something savory, warm, and irresistible? These stuffed pretzel bites hit the spot every time. Soft, doughy, and filled with cheesy goodness, they’re perfect for game nights or just a cozy snack!

Ingredients

  • Frozen puff pastry – 1 package (typically 2 sheets)
  • Potatoes (peeled and cubed) – 4 large potatoes
  • Onion – 1 medium onion
  • Olive oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Salt and pepper – To taste
  • Garlic powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Cream cheese – 4 oz (half a standard package)
  • Sour cream – 1/2 cup
  • Butter – 2 tablespoons
  • Egg (for egg wash) – 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes
Peel and cube the potatoes. Place them in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook for about 10-12 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the filling
While potatoes are boiling, sauté the onions in olive oil until golden brown. Mash the cooked potatoes with cream cheese, sour cream, butter, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until smooth and creamy. Stir in the sautéed onions.
  3. Assemble the casserole
Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into strips. Grease a casserole dish and layer one strip of pastry along the bottom and up the sides. Add the mashed potato mixture and spread evenly. Cover with another layer of pastry and fold the edges neatly. Brush with egg wash for a golden finish.
  4. Bake to perfection
Bake at 375°F for 30-35 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  •  For added flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or grated cheese to the potato mixture.
  • Phyllo dough can be used as a lighter alternative to puff pastry.
  • Using homemade mashed potatoes improves texture and flavor.
