Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 5 sweet dark cherries, pitted and stems removed
  • 1/2 oz agave syrup
  • 3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 1/2 oz blanco tequila
  • 1 oz amaretto liqueur
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh cherries and lime slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Muddle Ingredients:

    • In a cocktail shaker, combine the pitted cherries, agave syrup, and freshly squeezed lime juice.
    • Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, thoroughly mash the cherries until they release their juices and form a pulp.
  2. Add Spirits and Ice:

    • Pour in the blanco tequila and amaretto liqueur.
    • Add a handful of ice cubes to the shaker.
  3. Shake Well:

    • Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds, or until the outside of the shaker feels cold to the touch.
  4. Prepare Glass:

    • If desired, rim a glass with sugar or salt by running a lime wedge around the edge and dipping it into a plate of sugar or salt.
    • Fill the glass with fresh ice cubes.
  5. Strain and Serve:

    • Strain the shaken mixture into the prepared glass over the ice.
    • Garnish with fresh cherries and a lime slice, if desired.

Notes

  • Mocktail Version: For a non-alcoholic alternative, replace the tequila with club soda and the amaretto with a combination of 1/2 oz diet cola and 1/2 oz almond syrup. Adjust sweetness to taste.

  • Cherry Options: Fresh sweet dark cherries are ideal, but if they’re out of season, frozen cherries (thawed) can be used as a substitute.

  • Adjusting Sweetness: Depending on personal preference and the sweetness of the cherries, the amount of agave syrup can be adjusted accordingly.
