Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter (divided)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Make the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and roll into small meatballs.
  2. Brown the Meatballs: Heat 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, add remaining butter and sauté onions until soft and caramelized. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Simmer the Meatballs: Slowly whisk in beef broth and Dijon mustard. Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
  5. Serve: Adjust seasoning as needed and serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Notes

  • For juicier meatballs, use a mix of beef and pork.
  • Don’t overmix the meat to keep the meatballs tender.
  • Add a splash of soy sauce for extra umami flavor.
