Garlic Swirl Rolls are savory, buttery rolls infused with aromatic garlic and herbs, making them a delightful addition to any meal. These rolls feature a soft, fluffy dough rolled with a flavorful garlic butter spread, then baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/43°C)

1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 large egg yolk

4 to 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

For the Garlic Butter Filling:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 tablespoons garlic bread seasoning (or a mix of garlic powder, dried parsley, and a pinch of salt)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast, warm water, and sugar. Let it stand for about 10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
    2. Add salt, vegetable oil, and egg yolk to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
    3. Gradually add 3 cups of flour, mixing until combined. Continue adding flour, a little at a time, until a soft dough forms that is slightly sticky to the touch.
    4. Knead the dough for 2–3 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Garlic Butter Filling:

    1. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with the garlic bread seasoning until well combined.
  3. Assemble the Rolls:

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
    2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the risen dough into a rectangle approximately 18×6 inches in size.
    3. Evenly spread the garlic butter mixture over the entire surface of the dough.
    4. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the garlic butter layer.
    5. Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log, similar to making cinnamon rolls.
    6. Using a sharp knife or dental floss, cut the log into 12 equal slices.
    7. Place each slice into the prepared baking pan, cut side up. Cover with a cloth and let them rise for an additional 20–30 minutes.
  4. Bake the Rolls:

    1. Once the rolls have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 18–22 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
    2. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
