Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and stir to form a dough.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let It Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Dough: Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or divide it into rolls. Place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Add Cheese and Herbs: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese and Italian seasoning on top of the dough.
  7. Bake the Bread: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  8. Cool and Slice: Let the bread cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add grated Parmesan on top with mozzarella.
  • Brush with melted butter after baking for a soft crust.
