This cheesy asparagus puff pastry is a simple yet elegant appetizer that’s perfect for spring gatherings, brunches, or even a light meal. Buttery, flaky puff pastry is topped with a creamy cheese blend, fresh asparagus, and just the right seasonings for a dish that’s both visually stunning and absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed
  • ½ cup gruyère cheese, shredded
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prepare Pastry – Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Score a 1-inch border around the edges and prick the center with a fork.
  2. Add Cheese & Seasonings – Sprinkle gruyère and parmesan cheese evenly over the inside of the scored border.
  3. Arrange Asparagus – Lay the trimmed asparagus neatly over the cheese. Drizzle with olive oil and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Brush & Bake – Brush the edges of the pastry with a beaten egg for a golden finish. Bake for 18-22 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  5. Serve & Enjoy – Let cool slightly before slicing. Optional: Drizzle with balsamic glaze or sprinkle with extra parmesan before serving.

Notes

  • Use thin asparagus to ensure even cooking.
  • Shred cheese fresh for better melting.
  • Don’t overbake or the cheese may dry out.
