Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Melt Butter – Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place butter in an 8×8-inch baking dish and put it in the oven until fully melted.
  2. Mix the Dough – In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add buttermilk and stir until just combined. The dough will be sticky.
  3. Pour into Butter – Carefully pour the biscuit dough into the melted butter in the baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  4. Score the Biscuits – Use a knife to lightly score the dough into 9 squares.
  5. Bake Until Golden – Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  6. Cool & Serve – Let the biscuits cool slightly, then cut along the scored lines and serve warm.

Notes

  • If you don’t have buttermilk, make a substitute by mixing 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Use glass or ceramic baking dishes for the best results.
  • Don’t overmix the dough—stir just until combined to keep the biscuits light and fluffy.
